After missing the first day of writing without any good reason aside from being out that Saturday, I vowed not to cut another writing day. Instead, I ended up skipping lessons, live sessions and collecting badges. Even though I’ve continued writing and posting every day, there are no significant improvements in my writing. I’ve yet to learn or apply Ship30in30 writing principles.

We’ll be exploring what’s helping me stay on track and my plans to get back on top of things.

Giving myself permission

When I signed up for this, I knew part of the programme was creating the time and space to write essays every day. Unfortunately, I ended up writings late in the evenings, compromising the quality of my articles so that I could post them. I’ve underestimated the amount of time I needed to invest in this, and while I’ve continued writing, I’ve also missed two live sessions and building connections. As much as I dislike excuses, I had a few fires to put out in the business, which meant I couldn’t attend the live sessions or collect all my badges. Instead of feeling guilty about this, I’ve allowed myself to be behind but to continue with the writing.

Keep writing

Yes, I felt guilty all week for producing mediocre essays, but the only thing that’s keeping me somewhat on track is posting my modest articles. Writing every day is the bare minimum I can do right now, and I’m painfully aware that I’ll be cheating myself out of this opportunity if change doesn’t happen soon.

Plan of action

  1. Spend 4 hours Saturday catching up on sessions, materials and responding to messages.
  2. Spend 2 hours Sunday morning at the park brainstorming ideas and applying principles learned from the previous day.
  3. Prepare seven solid drafts for the week.
  4. Refine drafts every day, spending 60 mins max before posting.

In the meantime, feel free to let me know how you stay on top of things!
